CORK MARKET: ECONOMIC REPORT

In our eighth year of providing cork wine closures and other wine closures to the North American markets, we have seen many changes in the closure business.  More changes are ahead both with new technologies emerging and with economic shifts worldwide.

In the United States, we are slowly but surely emerging from recession.  In Europe, there are news headlines every day about the ongoing economic woes, and the world financial markets turn their eyes daily on the Euro Zone.  Europe is entering the fourth year of the unprecedented debt crisis… a crisis which has injured standards of living and made credit almost nonexistent in many countries.

The cork closure business has been affected by all these factors, but cork is still the world’s most beloved wine closure.

Portugal’s cork manufacturing business has been one that has been particularly hard hit since it must rely on purchasing raw materials more than six months prior to finished cork closure production. The number of cork manufacturing companies there have fallen from a high of almost 1000 enterprises to about 500 or so today. Many large and well known manufacturers have closed their doors or reduced their output.  Working capital has been hard to find in the midst of the European debt crisis.

ACI CORK USA Maintains Commitment to the US Wine Industry

Regardless of worldwide economic issues, Armando Andrade, the General Manager and Partner of ACI Cork USA, has made it a priority to maintain the service and quality of it’s broad share of the  North American market.

“Our commitment to our customers to provide them with the best corks available is unaffected by the turmoil in the Euro Zone,” Mr. Andrade said in a recent discussion of the challenges of the cork closure business in North America. “We are acutely aware that our 8 years of hard work has garnered us a loyal clientele of over 800 customers who rely on us to properly seal the fruit of their labor; their wine and we will not disappoint those customers.”

“Many of our competitors have gone out of business or have had to reduce their sales forces. We have been fortunate with our ability to expand our sales and production staffing, make new purchases of equipment and to reduce our carbon footprint during these trying times,” Andrade said.

In its years in business, ACI Cork USA has built a many strong relationships within the cork manufacturing industry.  Today, it utilizes these relationships to supplement its supply chain.   The company relies on continuous quality control and verification to insure it supplies the best and cleanest corks available.

ACI Cork USA looks forward to entering its 9th year of business as a leader in American cork and screw cap suppliers.  The company has sold one- half billion (500,000,000) corks and twenty five million screw caps since opening. Their commitment to the United States Wine Industry is undiminished and growing, and the company is looking forward to its 10th anniversary in 2014 and beyond as a supplier to the wine industry.
