Since its inception, ACI Cork USA has been sourcing cork, an eco-friendly wine closure , from Portugal. Now the company is taking eco-friendly to the next step with a new ACI company fleet of hybrid vehicles and smart delivery software programs.

“I regularly visit more than 100 wineries in California, Oregon and Washington, and that means putting 70,000 miles on a vehicle each year,” noted Phillip Durrett, Sales Manager. “With my new hybrid, I am getting more than 52 miles per gallon, and that makes a difference in reduction of carbon emissions.”

In the Portuguese cork manufacturing facilities, programs already in place to enhance cork’s green footprint include water conservation, power co-generation, and advanced recycling of waste products. Other goal- oriented green programs are in the process of deployment or development.

Once the product arrives in the USA, ACI Cork USA’s general manager Armando Andrade has devised a software program to max-the-box; by loading delivery trucks with smart engineering models, 25% more product can be fit into a delivery vehicle. The savings on fuel is substantial.
